2013 Winter Events in Auckland

It’s no surprise that New Zealand’s largest city plays host to a huge selection of events during the winter season. Most of these take place in the central business district in the heart of the metropolis, however there are also a few dotted around the suburbs as well. Being so large, Auckland is able to attract world class attractions from across the globe, as well as heading some of New Zealand’s biggest and favourite events. Here’s our selection of top 2013 winter events in Auckland.

The Winter Night Sky

Learn about the different stars, planets and constellations that are visible above Auckland during the winter months. An experienced presenter leads a show in the Planetarium that illustrates the unique star map you can see from New Zealand’s location, and if weather is permitting you can go out and try to see the real thing in the courtyard afterwards. A range of evenings are available from 26th June to 28th July.

Aotea Ice Rink

It doesn’t tend to snow in Auckland, but you can still experience a little bit of magic as Aotea Square transforms into a huge ice skating rink for all ages. The venue hosts a range of family-friendly entertainment events throughout the season, and the rink is open until 10pm every evening for a fun night out. Lessons, demonstrations and competitions are all planned, and entrance includes skate hire. Runs June 27th to August 11th.

Street Eats

The chefs of Auckland take to the street to bring you a selection of different delicacies from restaurants across the city. Held on Queen’s Wharf, it’s the perfect opportunity to try a little bit of everything from pizza to Thai to dessert. Live music and entertainment. Entry is free, and it takes place on the 10th of August.

Auckland Art Fair

An international-level showcase of New Zealand talent, the Auckland Art Fair runs for 4 days and offers a selection of staggering local talent. With over 10,000 visitors each year, the fair is the place for Kiwi artists to shine on a huge stage, and galleries from across the country put forth works to be bought and sold. Takes place on the 7th – 11th August.
