Sustainability is important here, with the people in Motueka aiming to become New Zealand’s first disposable cup free town – keep cups are big here!
There is plenty to see around the town as well. There’s the incredible beauty of the nearby Riwaka Resurgence, which is a remarkable clearwater spring bubbling out of an underground network of caves at the foot of the Takaka Hill. You must also check out the Ngarua Caves, which are accessed from the top of Takaka Hill and it’s worth stopping there to enjoy the beautiful view across Tasman Bay before heading into the caves on a guided tour. And if you’re into fishing, there is plenty of trout in the Motueka River.
