Head to Malaysian-influenced Chaiyo for some great vegan options, the best crispy pork around at Lee Hong BBQ, and be warned hot definitely means hot at the 100% Halal Ayutthaya Thai Food store. Excellent authentic sashimi and sushi can be found at Sushi Bar Salmon.
After a meal at one of the food stores at the Lim Chhour Food Hall stop by the Lim Chhour supermarket on your way out and stock up on those hard-to-find specialty Asian ingredients. Find the Lim Chhour supermarket at 184 Karangahape Road Newton, Auckland.
Mercury Plaza Food Court On Mercury Road
‘Merks’ as it’s known by its regulars may not be the flashiest food court around but if it's good food on the cheap you are looking for you won’t be disappointed. Look out for Maruten Ramen and try their Tonkotsu Ramen, grab some hot tofu soup at Koreaunts, or visit the team at E-sarn Wok for a great Thai Laksa and Mein Fun.
Although the Mercury Plaza Food Court’s days are numbered as it must make way for the new train station, it still remains a great hot spot for food on the go, oh and it pays to keep an eye out for the odd All Black while you are there!
Ponsonby Food Court On Ponsonby Road
Technically this one isn’t in the central city but it’s just too good to be left off the list! Enjoy an array of tasty Asian and European dishes right in the heart of Ponsonby on the corner of Ponsonby Road and Pollen Street, just a short ten-minute drive from the central city.
Expect to find Italian, Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Indonesian, Malaysian, Indian, Chinese, and even authentic cuisine from Laos. The Ponsonby International Food Court is the ultimate destination for picky eaters as there is certainly something for everyone. Try the Steamed Whole Snapper or Sizzling Squid from Zap Lai Laos Food or Bella Verona for some delicious pasta dishes and desserts.
Central Auckland Parking
When visiting the central Auckland food courts parking can sometimes be a bit tricky. The following public car parking facilities are the best spots for quick and easy access to the central Auckland entertainment precinct.
- The Atrium Car Park 130 Albert Street. Entry is through the Crowne Plaza Hotel entry on Albert Street. Parking costs $18 per day and $10 at night, or if you spend a minimum of $10.00 or more at any Atrium on Elliott outlet you will receive discounted parking rates. There are 736 undercover parking spaces available.
- Wilsons Elliot Street Parking Building 5 Elliot Street. Entry is off Elliot Street. Parking costs $19 per day on the early bird special or $15 per hour casual rates during the day and $16.50 at night. The building is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
